Sheriff’s Corner With Sheriff Tracy Murphree

The Denton County Sheriff’s Office has been working closely with other agencies to keep children safe from internet predators. We recently conducted a Joint Online Solicitation Operations that resulted in 10 onsite arrest and three warrants for arrest for online solicitation of a minor. These sexual predators walk among us – five live in Denton County, and the others live in surrounding counties willing to meet our children for sex. This should infuriate us as parents.

“This operation was a huge success; I am extremely proud of all the dedicated officers that worked long hours to take these predators off the street. I want to thank all the agencies that participated in making this possible. This type of operation should open the eyes of parents and other citizens to the dangers that lurk on the internet. We will continue to be vigilant in our efforts to protect our most precious resource, – our kids.”

We need to be more “curious” about what our children are doing online. Make sure that you know all passwords to the Apps that are downloaded on every electronic device your child has access to.

The 12 Apps that every parent of a teen should know about are listed below.

  • Audio Manager
  • Calculator%
  • Vaulty
  • Snapchat
  • Burn Note
  • Line
  • Omegle
  • Tinder
  • Blendr
  • Kik Messenger
  • Yik Yak
  • Ask.fm

All these Apps are made to hide photos, videos, messages, and other secrets from parents. Research these Apps online and see what they are really meant for. Now that school has started check your child’s electronics frequently.
