Sadie’s Sleigh 3.0 10,000 Toys for Kids

If you don’t think that one person can make a difference, then you’ve never met Sadie Keller.
Sadie was diagnosed with leukemia when she was only 7 years old. At a time when she should have been playing ball or Barbies, she began intense treatments to battle the disease. Not only did she take cancer on like a champ, she’s taken on the United States Congress.

Sadie has become a voice for childhood cancer, speaking in Washington on behalf of the RACE for Children Act which passed this year thanks to her and countless others. She’s been recently invited by Representative Michael McCaul to speak at the Childhood Cancer Summit as well as at CureFest for Childhood Cancer. Both events are held in Washington D.C. in September as it is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Sadie keeps a full schedule all year with speeches and milestone gifts for her fellow cancer patients, but what Sadie is best known for is Sadie’s Sleigh and this year will be bigger and better than ever!

Sadie’s Sleigh was started 3 years ago when Sadie expressed concern to her parents that the kids who suffered like she did in the hospital might not receive Christmas gifts if they weren’t home for Santa to deliver them. They decided to start a toy drive to get toys to the children at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas with a goal of 300 toys. They collected over 1300 that year so they made an even loftier goal the second year at 2600 toys and collected nearly 5000 for two hospitals: Children’s Medical Center in Dallas and Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth. So this year, the goal is 10,000 toys for four hospitals: Children’s Medical Center in Dallas and Plano, Medical City Children’s Hospital in Dallas, and Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth.

Here are ways that we all can help:

  • Buy toys and deliver them to local participating businesses at their drop off locations (check the Sadie Keller Foundation Facebook page for information as it is posted)
  • Instead of a white elephant party at work, have everyone buy toys and donate them to Sadie’s Sleigh 3.0
  • Go to their amazon.com wish list and order toys there.
