Lantana resident Tamara Quilty started Denton County T1 for moms of kids who have the Type 1 Diabetes. She is always looking for great ideas for low sugar summer snacks for her family. So she asked Dr. Carolyn Rachaner (also a Lantana resident) of RBC Life put together some great recipes to share for those of you looking to break or at least curb the sugar habit this summer.

Protein Balls
2 c. rolled oats
1 1/2 c. peanut butter
1/4 c. unsweetened coconut flakes
½ c. raw honey
2 scoops chocolate protein powder (or 2 packets of Pure Pro Base)
2 Tb. flax seeds ground (optional)
Mix together all ingredients and roll into balls. Place them in a container in the refrigerator or freezer for easy storage. Add semi-sweet mini chocolate chips if you’re okay with a little sugar.
