Lantana’s Newest Eagle Scout

Lantana’s Own Tanner Hornsby is the newest Eagle Scout at Boy Scout Troop 771. The Guyer High School Sophomore earned the Boys Scouts highest rank after completing all of the requirements as well as his Eagle Scout project.

In addition, because Tanner earned 36 merit badges, which is 15 badges above the required 21 merit badges, he was awarded bronze, gold and silver palms at the same time.

For his Eagle project, he cleaned, prepped and painted the fire hydrants in Lantana with the help of several scouts from his troop. Tanner divided the boys into teams, transporting any materials they needed and then inspected the area via four-wheeler to make sure they were completed to his expectations.

Tanner has attended many scout camps including Philmont, Camp Alexander and the BSA Aquatics school put on by the Longhorn Council every summer. He was awarded the prestigious Anchorman award for demonstrating outstanding water safety and aquatics skills. It is considered a sort of honor society for those attending Aquatic school and only given to a small number of the roughly 80 in attendance.

Tanner is the founder and president of the computer coding club at Guyer. He is also an active member of the chess club, bike club and student council.

Tanner hopes to attend a good engineering school after graduation and wants to study engineering.
Troop 771 is was formed in 2004 at Cross Timbers Church in Argyle. They are now charted by The Scouting Ministry 771, a nonprofit corporation.
