Lantana Golf Course provides year-round instruction for kids and adults of all ages, but being that summer is approaching quickly, now is as good a time as any to get the kids signed up for some extra instruction mixed with lots of fun.

Registration is now open for junior summer camps, which are slated to begin March 28 and last through the end of August. Camps will be broken down into two groups. The first group is only a half day starting in the mornings from 9am to noon. The second group is all day from 9am to 3pm, Tuesday through Friday with the exception of July 4 week. Campers in the half day group must be between the ages of 6-15 and the all day group must be between the ages of 8-15.

“Last year was my first year with the club, and I came in not really knowing what to expect. It was a great turnout, and everyone had fun,” said Director of Instruction, Jamie Thompson, who served as head golf pro and teaching professional at Coyote Ridge Golf Club and Bridlewood Golf Club in Flower Mound before joining the team at Lantana. He has more than 25 years of experience teaching golf to enthusiasts of all ages. “We had roughly 60 kids throughout last summer, and I expect anywhere between 70 and 75 this year.”

The goal of every camp is for the participants to receive individualized attention and learn the fundamentals of golf – with an emphasis on the first three letters (FUN). The younger campers will spend a lot of time on the driving range and putting green, as the course will be treated as a beginner’s clinic. The full-day clinics will be more on-course training learning everything from short game work to full swing work, course etiquette, and more.

There will also be a series of fun contests to keep the younger kids energized and eager to see what’s in store each day. Campers will also receive a prize pack at the end of their camp.

In addition to junior clinics, Thompson said the club is always offering adult instruction options.

Online registration for all junior clinics can be found at For specific questions, interested families can call the golf shop at 940.728.4653 or email Jamie Thompson at
