Guyer Holds its Own On All-District Team

by Steve Gamel

The high school football season ended last month and postseason honors are rolling in. Guyer, in particular, was well represented when the District 6-6A All-District team was released.

The Wildcats finished with nine selections to this year’s team, including two superlative honors. Leading the charge for Guyer was sophomore running back Kaedric Cobbs. Cobbs, the primary workhorse in what has always been a steady rushing attack, was named the district’s offensive newcomer of the year with McKinney Boyd freshman Collin Drake.

Cobbs, who transferred from Melissa in the offseason, was an absolute monster all year and finished his first year with the Wildcats having rushed for 1,362 yards and 25 touchdowns. He was also a great pass catcher out of the backfield, catching 10 balls for 135 yards.

He was joined by sophomore Grant Mahon, who was named the defensive newcomer of the year. John Lanz, a recent TCU signee, was one of three first-team selections for Guyer. Lanz was also named to the Texas Associated
Press Sports Editors all-state team as an honorable mention.
