A Love for Teamwork and Design: ML Group is Your Local Architect

by Steve Gamel

Ask Mike Love when he knew what he wanted to do for a living and he’ll take you back to when he was a little boy sitting in his parent’s living room. In those days, Love could be found in front of the television with his Big Chief Tablet of sketch paper in one hand and a pencil in the other.

“I played a lot of football and basketball, but in my downtime, I was sketching and drawing,” Mike said with nostalgia in his eyes. “I loved to draw. I can’t tell you how or why, but it was really easy for me.”

There are a million stories we could tell about Mike, who once created a resume written with architectural lettering to impress a prospective boss. He went to Texas A&M but skipped out on a slam-dunk degree in architectural design to focus on what he called “real world experience” working for various firms in Houston and Dallas. He was exposed to all forms of architecture and became a go-to designer before starting his firm, the ML Group, Inc., 30 years ago.

Even with all that success, none of it would have happened without the right people around him.

“I’m a part of this, but you have to meet the right people in your career. There are so many great people around me who make this happen,” Mike said. “I never want to lose sight of that. People and relationships – that’s what we are about.”

ML Group will celebrate its 30th year in August and features one of the more gifted teams of architects, designers, and project managers you’ll find in your backyard. Located in the heart of Flower Mound, Love’s agency plans for the way you live and is one of the premier residential and commercial design firms, with relationships that include volume builders Lennar Corporation and MHI, Inc.

The firm is proficient in custom home design and has positioned itself to handle the entire home design process, from initial concept and design to interior space planning and final document completion. Their reputation for creativity, experience, attention to detail, and sensitivity to economics and environmental issues consistently delivers results.

“Here we are, this hard-working and laid-back company in Flower Mound, and it’s been 30 years,” Love said. “We’ve seen a lot going from the days where you drew everything by hand on a drafting board to today’s way of doing things. I hired a lot of great people to make it all work. People say what are you known for? We’re known for making clients happy. That’s it.”
